Next Chapter Society members of the Nashville Public Library Foundation are civic-minded, emerging leaders who play a critical role in sustaining and enhancing the Library’s award-winning programs. By collecting membership fees, hosting fundraising events, volunteering at Foundation events and advocating for the Library, the Next Chapter Society helps children and adults learn vital reading skills, inspires teens to explore technology in state-of-the-art spaces and brings the community together to hear award-winning authors, enjoy visual art exhibits and hear live music.

The NCS Book Club offers a lively and relaxed discussion about the select book and themes addressed in the book. All are welcome, including non-members and those who have not read the book. Book Club is hosted the last Tuesday monthly at 6:30 p.m. at local venues around Nashville. We’ve updated our reading list for the year and cannot wait to see you there!
2022 Author Ambassador
NCS is proud to honor local author and chef Lisa Marie Donovan whose memoir Our Lady of Perpetual Hunger is the May 2022 book club selection. Donovan will join NCS book club members to discuss her debut book so please mark your calendars to join us!
Lisa Donovan is a James Beard award winning writer and chef who has redefined what it means to be a “Southern baker” as the pastry chef to some of the South’s most influential chefs. She has been formative in developing, writing and establishing a technique driven and historically rich narrative of traditional Southern pastry in restaurants across the country and in print. Lisa is a regular contributor to Food&Wine and she has been a featured speaker at René Redzepi’s globally renowned MAD Symposium on the culture and responsibilities of restaurants and centers her work on advocacy and education. Her writing has appeared in the Washington Post, Eater, LitHub, Saveur. Lisa is the author of OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HUNGER, her first book through Penguin Press in August 2020. OUR LADY was the recipient of the LDEI’s MFK Fisher Prize for Excellence in 2021.
