We are celebrating the end of a remarkable fiscal year for public funding for Nashville Public Library!
This year has also been exceptional for our advocacy efforts. We now have 181 NPL Ambassadors, and our passion for NPL is clearly visible to Metro Council. Our relationships have strengthened, interactions have increased, and the budget funding and advocacy highlights below showcase the impact of our efforts.
Advocacy Task Force Chair, Paige Clancy, said “We are grateful to Mayor O’Connell and Metro Council for their trust and confidence in NPL. I am also thankful to our ambassadors for their dedication to our beloved library. It is a privilege to serve alongside each of them.” Clancy has been chairing the Advocacy Task Force for over two years, and her leadership has been a driving force in the growth and impact of our advocacy initiative. “We look forward to kicking off another great year this fall and invite all library supporters to join our efforts.”

FY 2025 Operating Budget Wins
In a flat budget year, we were thrilled the library received additional operating funds for these investments:
$461,800 for additional staff at the new Donelson Branch Library
This is the second half of funding that was initially approved in the FY24 budget to fully staff the new Donelson library, which opened on June 24 (if you haven’t visited, you should!).
$35,000 for Translation Services
There are six major languages spoken in Davidson County in addition to English — Spanish, Arabic, Kurdish, Somali, Burmese, and Vietnamese. This funding will allow NPL to continue to translate our website and provide other resources to better serve our diverse communities.
FY 2024 Capital Budget Wins
By advocating and showing up for NPL, you contributed to securing:
An unprecedented $30 million investment for major maintenance projects throughout the library system.
$15 million for essential preventative maintenance, renovation of both Green Hills and Hermitage branches, and beginning design work for the new Hadley Park and Richland Park branches.
Advocacy Highlights: National Library Week
We collected 750 thank you cards and messages from across NPL’s 21 locations and delivered them to the Mayor and Metro Council during our Thank-a-Thon.
We filled the Council Chamber with NPL advocates for the reading of the Resolution Honoring NPL Workers during National Library Week.
