Support Local Art at the Madison Library

By Lisa Bubert

A beautiful, new mural will be coming to the Madison Library children’s area next year! We are raising funds now to bring this piece of artwork by local muralist, Kim Radford, to fruition.

The children’s area at Madison is a welcoming, inclusive place for families to play and relax and is well-known as Madison’s third place. We are pleased to have this unique opportunity to beautify it further with art from within our own community.

Kim Radford is an accomplished local artist with over 15 years’ experience bringing large, vibrant art to public spaces. A graduate from Austin Peay University, her most iconic public piece is the Dolly mural on the side of the 5 Spot in East Nashville.

Radford is excited to support her local library in this way. She herself is a Madison Library patron who became acquainted with the library when she brought her son to story time.

“The big, green wall in the children’s area has always been crying for a mural,” says Lisa Bubert, the children’s librarian at the Madison Library. “I am so excited to finally be able to bring even more color and vibrancy to our wonderful space.”

Funds raised to support this mural will go toward purchasing the supplies and compensating the artist for her expertise and time. Any additional funds raised will go toward supporting programs and services at the Madison Library.

“Many people don’t realize how much public library programming relies on the generous support of our Library Foundation and donors,” says Bubert. The library budget generally supports the building maintenance, staff salaries, and the library’s collection. “But anything extra, such as the Puppet Truck, our yoga classes, the seed exchange program, the summer reading program and all of the wonderful performers and incentives that come with it—all of that is made possible by the support of our Library Foundation, our Friends group, and fundraisers such as this one.”
