NPL’s Summer Reading Challenge offers free, constructive, supervised activities to keep young minds engaged and active in a safe, welcoming environment throughout the summer months. A study by MNPS confirmed that students who participated in the Summer Reading Challenge showed an increase in test scores from spring to fall. Skills with a big dose of fun.

The Summer Reading Challenge committee collaborated with Belmont art students to create trading cards for every NPL location. Students worked closely with staff at each branch to design cards that were unique and reflective of their communities. Giving the cards away as prizes created meaningful connections, as kids and adults enjoyed discovering the places or objects that inspired each branch’s card and getting a glimpse into other locations without having to travel.
