We are excited to honor award-winning author Louise Erdrich and celebrate the many accomplishments of our beloved Nashville Public Library!
About the Award
Established in 2004, the Nashville Public Library Literary Award recognizes distinguished authors for their illustrious contributions to the world of books, literacy, and reading. Each year, we bring an outstanding individual to Nashville for a weekend-long celebration to honor their achievements while simultaneously raising funds to support NPL and its essential education and literacy programs and resources.
About the Literary Award Weekend
Presented by UBS, the Nashville Public Literary Award weekend draws more than 1,000 cultural, political, community, and business leaders from across Nashville and beyond.
Patrons Party  – Friday, November 11th at 6:30 p.m. – Downtown Main Library
Often described as “the best book club in town,” the weekend kicks off on Friday night at the Patrons Party, sponsored by Pinnacle Financial Partners. This evening cocktail party, which will take place at the Main Library, allows you to mingle and network the who’s who of Nashville and the literary world, including the Literary Award recipient. You will also get to see an exclusive interview between our Literary Award winner, Louise Erdrich, and past Literary Award winner and acclaimed author Ann Patchett.
Public Lecture – Saturday, November 12th at 10:00 a.m. – Martin Luther King Jr. High School
The Public Lecture, sponsored by Dollar General and Carol &amp; Bobby Frist, is a highlight of the weekend. This event allows the general public to hear from and celebrate the honoree.
Literary Award Gala – Saturday, November 12th at 6:30 p.m. – Downtown Main Library
The weekend will culminate in the Gala in the Grand Reading Room at the Main Library. This event promises delightful cocktails, conversation, and a delicious dinner in an elegant setting.
About the Author
Louise Erdrich, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, is the author of many novels as well as volumes of poetry, children’s books, and a memoir of early motherhood. Her novel The Round House won the National Book Award for Fiction and The Night Watchman won the Pulitzer Prize. Love Medicine and LaRose received the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction. Erdrich lives in Minnesota with her daughters and is the owner of Birchbark Books, a small independent bookstore. Her most recent book, The Sentence, has been nominated for the Women’s Prize. A ghost lives in her creaky old house.
