Teen Programs

T.O.T.A.L.
(Totally Outstanding Teen Advocates for the Library)

This group of high school students advocates for the library among their peers and the community at large; plan and implement programs for teens; assist in recruiting teen volunteers; and represent the library at community events, meetings and institutions.

Working on the premise that no one communicates with teens better than other teens, the T.O.T.A.L. program's primary goal is to attract this hard-to-reach audience to the library by engaging teens to plan teen programs.  Since October of 2005, T.O.T.A.L. has conducted 330 programs (including Online Safety, Bullying, Racism, and Truth Behind the Music) attended by more than 6,000 teens in sites throughout Davidson county.  T.O.T.A.L. was awarded the coveted national Highsmith Award in 2007 for its excellence in positive youth programs.

T.O.T.A.L. is 100% funded by the Nashville Public Library Foundation. 

Memorial Foundation
Gallatin Road Corridor Revitalization

Through the generosity of the Memorial Foundation, the Nashville Public Library Foundation has facilitated the revitalization of teen areas and programming at the East, Inglewood and Madison branches of the Library.

Academic assistance, computer additions, space enhancements  and support staff are part of the provisions of the Memorial Foundation grant to the Nashville Public Library Foundation.
     Darrel Luckey - T.O.T.A.L

DARRYL LUCKEY started NPL's teen program, T.O.T.A.L., as an enthusiastic participant in 2006. Whenever a program was held at the Looby Branch Library, 'Luckey' was always one of the first through the doors. He enjoyed participating so much, he applied to be part of the teen T.O.T.A.L. staff.  Needless to say, he got the job!" Luckey went on to lead many programs for Looby and other libraries, including one of his favorites, The Truth Behind the Music.
