Literacy Coach, Fannie Battle Day Home

I’ve been a literacy coach at Fannie Battle Day Home for nine years and have worked with Nashville Public Library’s Bringing Books to Life (BBTL) program the entire time. The BBTL team is so well-prepared and always comes with new and interesting materials for our parents and books for the children. And the Puppet Truck … I just can’t say enough good things about the resource and think it’s one of the best in the U.S. A lot of these children would not have the opportunity to go to the library to see those shows, and to bring that experience to the children is just amazing. One of the aspects of my job is parent education and early literacy. A lot of our parents are young and may not have finished high school and often don’t understand how important it is to read to children. And they don’t understand that books are so important in the household. I think BBTL helps to educate those parents about that.
